FILM SUMMARYThe subject is murder, the film`s heroes are 7 ordinary men who commit such an act. "The House of Cain" plunges into the images, the memories, the nightmares, the reality and the attempts these people make to escape from the borderline situation in which they live. 6 inmates, their guard and l released prisoner encircle, each one in his own way, the irrevocable act which embodies the absurd and crushes their existence. Prison, the morgue, the museum of criminal exhibits, the courts, the police, the ruins of an old penal colony, the cells that have yet to be built, the streets of the town, constitute the mourning, bear the traces of the characters of the film but also of the persons as yet unknown, who the very next minute will find themselves in the same position. The events, the intimate details are absent. "The House of Cain" is a journey in human decline and the guilt that each person experiences in the way and to the degree that he can. A silent lament, humble and awkward about a lost innocence and whether it can be regained is open to question. An exploration of man`s limits but also of the boundaries of the documentary. The acrobatics of the characters and the acrobatics of style. The reality of the soul and the senses as the only film reality and record.
